Antofagasta Regional Ministerial Secretary for Energy Leads First PEC Talk

The Education and Skills Development Program for Young People in Mejillones (PEC, Spanish acronym) seeks to prepare new generations to participate in the industries of the future. It includes career guidance talks and other educational activities designed to provide concrete development tools within their own community.

With students, teachers, school administrators, and authorities in attendance, the first career guidance talk of the Education and Skills Development Program (PEC) for young people in Mejillones was held on Tuesday, May 20, at the auditorium of Complejo Educativo Juan José Latorre Benavente.

The PEC seeks to strengthen students’ technical skills and prepare them to participate in next-generation industries. This first cycle of talks is therefore aimed at students in their second year of secondary school, supporting their career guidance process and encouraging interest in trades and professions relevant to green industries.

The first PEC talk focused on e-fuels and their relevance to the energy transition in Chile and worldwide, as well as the opportunities they represent for local development.

The session included presentations by Dafne Pino, Regional Ministerial Secretary for Energy in Antofagasta, and Francisca Canales, Head of Projects at the Energy Sustainability Agency.

The Education and Skills Development Program (PEC) for Young People in Mejillones has the following objectives:

• Build technical capabilities and qualifications among young people in Mejillones, targeting current students of Liceo Juan José Latorre as well as graduates living in Mejillones.

• Contribute to achieving a significant share of local employment at all levels of the NorQuim Technological Complex once it reaches permanent operation.
