Luis Yáñez, General Manager of NorQuim, participated in the opening panel on energy security and competitiveness, where he discussed the potential domestic demand that Chilean mining could generate for new fuels.
NorQuim took part in Hyvolution Chile 2026, an event that brought together companies, institutions, authorities, and developers involved in green hydrogen, its derivatives, and new industrial solutions from September 1 to 3.
Organized by FISA, GL events, and H2 Chile, Hyvolution is one of the leading regional platforms for bringing together stakeholders in this industry. The 2026 edition placed particular emphasis on moving from potential to project implementation, addressing issues such as competitiveness, demand, financing, regulation, infrastructure, and regional development.
NorQuim General Manager Luis Yáñez participated in Panel 1, “Energy Security and Competitiveness: Progress of Clean Molecule Projects and Initiatives in Chile and Globally.”
In his presentation, Luis Yáñez emphasized the opportunity for Chile to develop domestic demand and new uses for e-Methanol, extending its contribution beyond export potential and opening new opportunities for decarbonization and industrial development, with significant potential in the mining sector.
His participation provided an opportunity to present NorQuim’s proposal and its vision of chemistry for the future, linked to more sustainable value chains for lithium and copper mining and to the production of e-Methanol under circular economy principles, from Mejillones.
The panel also included Gonzalo Moyano, General Manager of MAE; Víctor Turpaud, CEO of HIF Latam; Exequiel González, General Manager of Consorcio Austral; and Gonzalo Blumel, General Manager of H2 Green Mining.
Mejillones Represented Through Young Talent
Hyvolution Chile 2026 also hosted the national final of the H2 Grand Prix Chile 2026, a competition developed in Chile by Corporación Educacional SOFOFA and based on a STEAM methodology that introduces secondary-school students to the design, construction, and operation of scale vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
This year’s edition brought together 23 teams from 21 educational institutions across eight regions of Chile. The municipality of Mejillones was represented by students from Complejo Educativo Juan José Latorre Benavente, members of The Hydro Valkyries team.
The Hydro Valkyries is an all-female team whose experience already extends beyond the national competition. During 2026, its members represented Chile at the H2GP World Final held in Bulle, Switzerland, where they competed in both the Girls STEAM competition and the Modified category.
Their participation reflects the early development of capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and new energy among young people from a municipality seeking to consolidate its position as a hub for green industry development.
